So yeah, you might like a ghost ring or a large peep sight better than a scope with see-through rings. On the rimfires, I vastly prefer an aperture sight to a scope, because it's less to fool with and they don't get shot more than 60 or 70 yards usually. I leave it on 1x until needed, and turn it right back down again after I'm done with it. I use a 1-4x variable power scope on my 12ga/.30-06, but that is only so I can shoot stuff out past 200 yards where I can't see very good with irons. It would shoot quarter-sized groups at 100 yards with a good rest and cool barrel on 9x, but the shotgun was too difficult to use even at 3x. 30-30/20ga model 24 for a while, very seldom turned it up past 3x, and still hated it. If you mount a scope, keep it 1-2x or you will be hating life when trying to shoot running stuff with the shotgun.
